For over 30 years it has provided clinical and other services to survivors, helping 55,000 people to recover – physically and psychologically – from their experiences. Over 350 staff and volunteers – doctors, counsellors, legal advisors,
physiotherapists, psychotherapists, psychologists, interpreters, and art and music therapists work to help torture survivors rebuild their lives.
In 2019 its clients came from 58 different countries from across the world, with the majority coming from: Sri Lanka; DRC; Iran; Afghanistan; Sudan; Cameroon; Turkey; Ethiopia; Iraq; and Nigeria.
Freedom from Torture campaigns to ensure that countries responsible for torture are held to account and the human rights of survivors are protected.
Projects like Survivors Speak Out and Write to Life help rehabilitate victims after their ordeals.
